It is the optimum mission of the SMC Design Technology to provide great multimedia students with a comprehensive and well rounded education in rapidly evolving media fields. You have access for more information about our programs, resources and staff in the evolving entertainment field.
In existence for over 25 years, the Graphic Design Program serves both the student who wishes to transfer to a four-year college or art school, as well as other students to obtain the skills necessary for entry into the job market as a production artist in graphic design, illustration or web design.
The program emphasizes the processes of designing living, work and indoor environments as integral components of a building system. Instruction is offered in drafting and graphics; principles of lighting, acoustics, furniture, textiles; and applications to office, hotel, factory, restaurant and housing design.
Slated for 2013 completion, the complex will unite the media technology department at Santa Monica College with the headquarters of KCRW. The 3-acre project unfolds around a courtyard, with a mash-up of professional production studios for KCRW and a range of student facilities to provide on-the-job training-among them a newspaper lab, a film studio, and edit bays. Square footage for the new KCRW building and an addition to the college's existing media technology building, also under renovation, totals 65,000 including a screening room that's open to the public. The overall count comes to 213,000 square feet when you factor in a seven-level garage.
